Clear answers to help you estimate, select and book the right moving package.

How much can the moving van carry?

Our long-wheelbase moving van provides approximately 11 cubic metres of cargo space. The load area is about 3.4 metres long, 1.8 metres wide and 1.79 metres high, narrowing to approximately 1.36 metres between the wheel arches.

The amount that fits will depend on the size and shape of your belongings and how efficiently they can be stacked. Please use our space estimator and include every large or unusually shaped item when selecting your package.

What types of moves is Moving Spaces designed for?

Our moving service is designed for room moves, flats, apartments and smaller household moves.

What can affect the time required?

The time required can be affected by:

The number and size of your belongings
The number of boxes or bags
Stairs and lifts
Long driveways or corridors
The distance between the property and the moving vehicle
Parking availability
Traffic conditions
Travel between the pickup and delivery addresses

Allow for the access conditions at both properties when estimating your moving time.

When does my moving time begin and end?

Moving time begins when we leave our base on Lunn Avenue, Mt Wellington, and ends when we return.

Your booked time must allow for:

Travel from our base to the pickup address
Loading
Travel between the pickup and delivery addresses
Unloading
Travel back to our base

How do I choose the right moving package?

List the furniture and other large items you are moving, estimate the number of boxes or bags, and calculate the likely loading, unloading and travel times.

What happens if something is damaged during the move?

Moving Spaces does not provide insurance for customers’ belongings. Goods are carried at owner’s risk, as set out in our booking terms, and customers should arrange their own contents or transit insurance if cover is required.

Please report any damage as soon as possible and provide photographs and details so it can be assessed. Nothing in our terms limits any rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Where do you provide moving services?

Our local moving packages are intended for moves within a central Auckland suburb or to an adjacent suburb. We also offer a separate Auckland–Hamilton package.

Please contact us before booking if either address falls outside the area described for your selected package.

What happens if I do not disclose a heavy or difficult-to-move item?

If an item was not disclosed and cannot be moved safely using the booked crew and equipment, we may leave it behind. Time spent assessing or attempting to move an undisclosed item counts towards your booked moving time.

Do I need to tell you about heavy or difficult items?

Yes. You must tell us before booking about any unusually heavy, oversized or difficult-to-move items, or anything that may require more than one person or specialist equipment. This includes items such as pianos, safes, stone furniture and large commercial appliances.

Do I need to help with the move?

Your selected package will show how many crew members are included. If it includes one crew member, you or another capable adult must be available at both locations to assist with items requiring two people. If two crew members are included, customer assistance is generally not required, provided all heavy or difficult items were disclosed when booking.

Can I move between Auckland and Hamilton?

Yes. Our Auckland–Hamilton package is designed for moving a room or small one-bedroom flat between Auckland and Hamilton in either direction.

The package includes 4½ hours with one crew member. Make sure this allows enough time for travel from and back to our Lunn Avenue base, loading, travel between the pickup and delivery addresses, and unloading.

If additional time is required, it will be charged at our published additional-time rate.

Do I need to pack before the move?

Yes. Your belongings should be packed and ready to move before we arrive.

Having everything organised and ready to load will help you use your booked moving time efficiently.

What information will I need when booking?

You will need to provide:

Your pickup address
Your delivery address
Your preferred moving date
Details of the items being moved
The approximate number of boxes or bags
Relevant access information for both properties
Any stairs, lifts, parking restrictions or long carrying distances

Can I book a large or specialist move online?

Our online packages are intended for rooms, flats, apartments and smaller household moves.

Please contact us before booking if your move involves unusually large or heavy items, specialist handling, multiple pickup or delivery addresses, or other complex requirements.

Who pays for parking?

The customer is responsible for any reasonable parking or loading charges incurred at the pick-up or delivery location. Where possible, please arrange suitable legal parking or a loading space close to the entrance before we arrive.

Can I get a refund on pre-purchased time?

No. Once the moving service has begun, pre-purchased additional time is non-refundable, including any time that is not ultimately used.

This is separate from our cancellation policy, which applies when a booking is cancelled before the service begins.

Are the displayed prices inclusive of GST?

No. All moving-package prices exclude GST. GST will be added at checkout.

What happens if my move takes longer than the booked time?

Additional time can be pre-purchased in 20-minute blocks for $20 plus GST.

Any additional time required on moving day is charged at $25 plus GST per 20 minutes or part thereof.

Where possible, select enough time when booking to avoid additional on-the-day charges.

What happens if traffic causes a delay?

Travel time forms part of your booked moving time. Traffic conditions can affect the total time required, so we recommend allowing some additional time when selecting your package.

Use the date and approximate time of your move in Google Maps to obtain a more realistic travel-time estimate.

What is included in a moving package?

Every moving package includes:

The number of crew members shown in your selected package
Loading your belongings
Transportation
Unloading at your destination
Safe handling of your belongings
The amount of moving time included in your selected package

Any additional time required will be charged at the published additional-time rate.

Can I change my moving date or time after booking?

Please contact us as soon as possible if you need to change your moving date or time. Changes are subject to availability and are not confirmed until agreed by Moving Spaces.

If we cannot accommodate the requested change, our cancellation and refund policy will apply.

What happens if I need to cancel my booking?

Refunds are available in accordance with our refund policy.

Generally, a 50% refund is available when a booking is cancelled at least one week before the moving date. Cancellations made less than one week before the booked move are not normally refundable.

Cancellations on compassionate grounds within one week of the booked date will be assessed individually.
