How to Estimate Your Move
Calculate Your Moving Time
1. List what you're moving
List your larger furniture and household items.
For example:
Beds
Sofas
Dining tables
Chairs
Fridge/freezer
Washing machine
Drawers
Desks
TV units
Other large or heavy items
Then estimate the number of boxes or bags.
Tip: It's better to slightly overestimate than underestimate.
2. Estimated loading & unloading times
Estimate the time it takes to carry your items between your property and where the moving vehicle can park. Apartment buildings, long driveways, stairs and other access issues can make a significant difference to loading and unloading time.
Estimate the time for both your pickup and delivery locations.
Loading time = number of items x time to carry each item to the moving vehicle
Unload time = number of items x time to carry each item from the moving vehicle into your new place.
Tip: time yourself walking carefully between your house and the parking spot for the removal vehicle and back.
3. Calculate travel time
Use Google Maps to calculate the driving time from our base in Lunn Ave, Mt Wellington, to your pickup address, then to your delivery address and back to our base.
Tip: When using Google Maps, use the date and approximate time of your move to improve the accuracy of your travel-time estimate.
4. Add the times together
Add the loading, unloading and travel times together.
5. Choose your package
Choose a package that meets or slightly exceeds your estimated total time. If needed, add pre-purchased 20-minute extensions. Book your moving date and complete our online booking form.
Tip: Don't worry if your estimate isn't 100% accurate. If your move takes longer than the time included in your package, any additional time will be charged at the end of the move at our published additional-time rate.

Additional 20-minute time extensions can be pre-purchased when booking or charged at the end of the move.

$25 + GST | 20 minutes or part thereof
Where possible, choose enough time when booking to avoid additional on-the-day charges.

Is Our Moving Service Right for You?
Moving Spaces is designed for flats, apartments and smaller household moves.
Our package system works best when you can provide a reasonable estimate of the items you're moving and the number of boxes.
You or another capable adult can assist with any items that require two people to carry.
Our service is not suitable for exceptionally heavy, oversized or specialist items. Contact us before booking if you are unsure whether an item can be moved safely.

How much time should I book?
Choose the package that most closely matches your estimated total moving time. If you're unsure, it's better to allow a little extra time. You can also purchase additional 20-minute blocks when booking.
What happens if there are delays?
Traffic can affect travel times, so we recommend allowing some extra time when choosing your package. If additional time is needed on moving day, it will be charged at our published additional-time rate.
Can I get a refund on pre-purchased time?
No. Pre-purchased time is offered at a lower rate and is non-refundable, including any unused time.
Please estimate your moving time carefully before adding extra 20-minute blocks. If additional time is required on moving day, it will be charged at the published on-the-day rate.
